Lavender

Lavender

The origins of Lavender originate from around India, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East, and has been used for more than 2,500 years.

Lavender should be planted between April and May when the soil is much warmer, and the chance of cold snaps becomes less likely. However once established Lavender is a hardy plant, and thrives in most free-draining soils, and it is fairly drought resistant, and can usually thrive in partially dry climates.

In more heavier soils, like clay and clay loam,  Lavender can struggle a bit, however to minimalise this struggle you should add organic matter to the soil, and gravel to improve the drainage of the soil. This will help to prolong the life of the Lavender plant.

Lavender is fairly flexible in it's uses, it can be used as an ingredient to add flavour to things like bakery goods, salads, meat, and much more, it adds sort of a floral taste to the meal/dessert, and it is slightly sweet.

Some recipes that feature lavender are,

Lavender has other uses, and can be used as a sleep aid for minor sleeping problems, and it can be used to relax people who have minor stress and anxiety problems.

Lavender oil, is thought to also have anti-inflammatory properties, and antiseptic properties, which can heal bug bites and burns.

Some studies also conclude that lavender may help digestion issues such as vomiting, abdominal swelling, and an upset stomach among other things.

Another study has also suggested that lavender oil may be effective in combating anti-fungal resistant infections, Lavender oil may also help in treating hair loss.

Although Lavender may aid in treating some of these issues, it isn't wise to rely on only lavender to try and treat these issues, people with more serious digestion issues, anxiety, and sleep problems should seek medical advice. Lavender Oil shouldn't be a replacement for serious, life-debilitating problems.

If you occasionally have bouts of minor digestion issues, or minor sleep issues, you could always try lavender oil, but be aware it may not solve you problem/issue, and if it doesn't go to a Doctor.

It can also be used to freshen homes and rid homes of bad odours, many commercially sold air fresheners feature lavender in them, or are primarily lavender scented, however most of these air fresheners have added chemicals which detracts from the original lavender smell slightly.

Spring Forecast

Spring Forecast March I'm expecting an unsettled, chillier than average or average start to March but not particularly cold. But quite quickly I expect high pressure to reestablish over the UK, possibly mid-month. Which for a time could bring quite mild weather for March. I expect it to become quite a bit drier also, maybe very dry, the dry weather could be alleviated in some areas by one off downpours here and there. In my personal opinion, I do think we could see some exceptionally mild weather later in March too. That's just my opinion. April in my view I think things may switch a bit to be on the cooler side, northerly winds could become prominent in this month, I do think there could be some snowfall when we do get northerly winds but whereabouts is obviously unknown at this stage. But personally I think April will be a cooler than average or average month. Rainfall I think it could be a bit drier than average for some parts or on the average side. (Here...

Looking At Winter 18/19 Models

Looking At Winter 18/19 Models Before we begin, I'd like to stress that it is still early days, so whatever the models are saying at this point in time, may be totally different to what they may be saying in a few months time. This is just for fun, and an interesting look at what the Winter of 2018/19 may be like. So first half I'd like to start of with the CFSV2 model. . Not much to go off from this I dont think, however the high pressure usually close to Spain looks like it is a lot weaker, and more to the south than usual. But we have that huge swathe of low pressure to the West. With Not much to go on, I can have a little guess from the things we do see, and I believe the CFS is probably going for a mild zonal winter with this update, it'd probably be quite stormy, I think, because high pressure seems way away from us. However it's still early days and these models could change. JAMSTEC Now, onto JAMSTEC. JAMSTEC looks quite interest...
